Endeavour International Corp., Houston, (Amex: END) reports Barry J. Galt, a member of the board of directors, died Aug. 22. Galt served as a director of the corporation since 2004 when Endeavour was first established as a North Sea-focused oil and gas exploration and production company.
“We deeply mourn the loss of a respected leader in the oil and gas industry who was a mentor and a friend to so many of us in the business. Our company was fortunate to have someone of his stature and experience as a part of our board of directors,” says Endeavour chief executive William L. Transier. “On behalf of all of our employees and the board of directors, I extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Kathy, and the entire family."
Galt was the retired chairman and chief executive officer of Seagull Energy Corp., a diversified exploration and production company that merged with Ocean Energy Inc. in 1999. He served on the board of directors of the combined company until its acquisition by Devon Energy Corp. in April 2003. Prior to heading Seagull Energy, Galt was president and chief operating officer of The Williams Companies in Tulsa, Okla. He also served on the board of directors of Trinity Industries, Dynegy Inc., and Abraxas Petroleum Corp. He was active in many charitable organizations in both Houston and Tulsa, including the Salvation Army and United Way, and served as a trustee for Memorial Hospital and St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. He was an active alumnus of the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated from law school and with a bachelor of accounting degree. Galt served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Reserves where he attained the rank of lieutenant commander.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Galt, sister and brother-in-law Martha and Ray Jones, daughters and sons-in-law Terri and Stan Tacker, Carol and Robert Smith and Gayle and Tom Kennedy, grandchildren Brian Tacker and wife Lisa, Galt Tacker, Zach Smith, Hannah Smith, Logan Smith, Andrew Kennedy, Peter Kennedy and Mary Helen Kennedy.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 26 in the Library of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive. A celebration of the life of Barry J. Galt will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church of Houston, 5300 Main St., with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
